“Coach” and Clara: How Merrell Still Works His Magic

“Coach” and Clara: How Merrell Still Works His Magic By Alexander Wolff I still wonder how he did it. Not the elite-level running; Merrell Noden was a strapping and powerful athlete, and anyone to come within his force field knew what would happen when he set one of...

Running In Honor of
Merrell Noden

OUR
MISSION

To provide high level coaching and competition for NYC runners whose high schools do not provide winter track. To share, nurture, teach and coach the love of running and commitment to sportsmanship that Merrell embraced every day.

WHO WAS

MERRELL NODEN

A talented and elite runner, Merrell Noden was an even better person.

Through his life-long passion for running, together with a deep love of family, music, writing, literature, social activism, and friendship, Merrell touched thousands of lives. In retrospect, his greatest skill, and gift to us all, may have been bringing people together.

In the Spring of 2015, Merrell passed away from cancer. The Merrell Noden Track Club is one small way to honor Merrell’s lifelong love of running, and to remember all the good he brought into the world. Read More

COACH

JOE BOLSTER

After a long career in stand-up comedy, Joe created the MNTC in December of 2018 to honor his great friend Merrell. They met one summer afternoon in high school while working out on a local track and bonded over their passion for track and field, leading to a friendship that lasted over four decades. During those years, Merrell introduced Joe to numerous Princeton teammates, Lawrenceville pals, and Sports Illustrated colleagues. These many friends of Merrell’s have been instrumental in supporting the MNTC and Joe very much appreciates their generous gifts.
